Construction Robotics, a small startup company in Victor that makes a brick-laying robot, has won a major industry award.

The company's SAM100 (Semi-Automated Mason) Robot received the World of Concrete's 2015 Most Innovative Product Award.

World of Concrete, held in Las Vegas, is an annual international conference that focuses on the commercial concrete and masonry industry.

"I am honored that the masonry community has recognized Construction Robotics with the Industry Choice Award," Scott Peters, Construction Robotics co-founder said in an emailed news release.

"It is no secret that the industry is struggling from a shortage of skilled workers and the median age of masons continues to go up and not down. Being recognized by the industry with this award reinforces the industry's willingness to use technology to attract a younger generation to the trade and regain market share lost to other building materials," he said.

According to the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), employment of masons was projected to grow 34 percent from 2012 to 2022, much faster than the average for all occupations. There were about 85,000 masons in the workforce in 2012, according to the BLS.

Population growth will lead to construction of more schools, hospitals, homes, and other buildings, which will employ more masons, according to the BLS.
