Gabay, 43, died Sept. 15 after he was struck while taking cover Sept. 7 from Brooklyn gunfire that was believed to be gang-related. Police say Gabay was a bystander, walking by as he headed home from pre-West Indian Day Parade festivities.

His wake will be held from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, with a celebratory service to follow, according to a notice sent to Empire State Development employees. The wake is open to the public, but closed to the press.

Gabay's invitation-only funeral will be held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the same church.

A native of the Bronx and a graduate of Harvard Law School, Gabay has been first deputy counsel in Empire State Development -- the state's economic-development branch -- since January. Prior to that, he was assistant counsel in Cuomo's office since 2011.

A fund launched by Gabay's family has already garnered $28,000 since its launch earlier this week. His former colleagues at ESD are also "compiling a memory book to celebrate his legacy," according to the notice.
