3 Best Bets: cycling, muskies and fencing

1. Wayne County bike tour: Ride a nine- or six-mile route through Wayne County during the Erie Canal and Cobblestone Bike Tour on Sunday. Both rides begin and end outside the Wayne County Department of Social Services, 77 Water St., Lyons. The longer ride, which will take cyclists past four cobblestone houses, Clinton's Ditch, Enlarged Erie and the Barge Canal, will begin at 1 p.m. The shorter six-mile route will begin at 2:30 p.m. Riders must bring their own bikes and wear a bike helmet. Cyclists make their way east on the Erie Canal path in Greece. A bike tour in Wayne County on Sept. 20 takes cyclists along the canal and past cobblestone houses.

2. Muskie management meeting: Learn about the latest research and management work being done by the St. Lawrence River Muskellunge Management Work Group at 7 p. m. Monday at The Genesee Valley Henrietta Moose Lodge, 5375 West Henrietta Road, Henrietta. John Farrell, an associate professor at the state College of Environmental Science and Forestry and the director of the Thousand Island Biological Station in Clayton, Jefferson County, will share the latest about the fish at a regular meeting of the local chapter of New York State Muskies. 3. Learn to fence: Take an introductory fencing class from Iris Zimmermann, an Olympian and co-owner of the Rochester Fencing Club, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, at the fencing club, 777 Culver Road, Rochester. The class, offered through the Rochester Brainery, costs $30 per person. Participants will learn fencing basics during the 75-minute class. Participants are asked to wear athletic pants and sneakers.
