Sam Shur of Sodus photographed Danny Wegman’s one-of-a-kind Ferrari on Sept. 20 outside the Pittsford Wegmans supermarket.

Danny Wegman doesn't have any trouble remembering where he parks when he goes grocery shopping. He can just look for the crowd of admirers surrounding his red one-of-a-kind Ferrari.

Wegmans Food Markets Inc. spokesperson Jo Natale declined to talk about the car. She said her boss — the grocery chain's CEO — wouldn't, either.

Sam Shur, an 18-year-old self-described "car spotter" who uploads pictures of rare and exotic vehicles to websites dedicated to the hobby, said stumbling upon Wegman's 2015 Ferrari SP America was his best find yet.

"It was pretty awesome seeing that car. I've seen cars that I really liked, but that one was definitely the rarest and one of the best," said Shur, a cutlery salesman and owner of Shift Photography, an automotive photography business.

An employee of World Wide Ferrari/Maserati in Rockland County who identified himself as Gary said the car was delivered to Wegman through his dealership.

"It's a very exclusive car. It is a one-off, that I can confirm. It's based off of the (Ferrari) F12, but (Wegman) went and had the car done at Pininfarina, where they custom-designed the car for him," said the employee, who would not give his last name.

"He went to the design house and they designed the car, then they built it," he said.

Shur's pictures of the car have gotten a lot of attention in social media locally and among exotic car fans. Shur uploaded nine photos of the car to GTSpirit.com on Sept. 21, the day after he shot them. The pictures and accompanying article have received almost 538,000 Facebook likes.

Shur said he was hanging out in Pittsford with a friend when he saw the sports car.

"I had heard about it on the Internet. It was rumored that Danny Wegman was the one that bought it," Shur said.

Shur spotted the car about 1 p.m., and spent a little over an hour taking more than 300 pictures before Wegman arrived with a woman and a boy.

"A few security guards walked over to me at one point when I was taking photos. They came over and said they don't mind me taking pictures, as long as I don't touch the car," said Shur, who lives in Sodus, Wayne County.

"I told him that I really liked his car and then I gave him one of my business cards and said I own an auto photography business and offered him a photo shoot if he ever wants it," said Shur.

Wegman put his groceries in the car, got in with his passengers and drove away.

"However I had to help him back up because he was worried that there were people who were trying to pull into the spot he was in. He asked me if anyone was coming and he drove away," Shur said.
