Police investigate after one person was struck by train in Rochester.

A CSX train struck and killed a 60-year-old homeless man Sunday morning near Scio Street in northeast Rochester.

Few details were available about why the man was on the elevated tracks, which run perpendicular to the street on a rail bridge. The man's body was found near the overpass, which is about a half-mile from the Rochester Public Market.

Police responded to a call from the operator of the CSX train around 9:20 a.m. He told police that he was traveling on the south tracks when he saw a man and a woman nearby, just west of the overpass. The operator sounded his horn and saw the man and woman try to move out of the way, but was unsure if he hit them.

No woman was found, Police Lt. Joseph Hayes said at the scene.

A witness who declined to give his name said he saw a man and a woman clamber up a hill onto the tracks before hearing the train horn blow long and hard.

The woman came back down the hill after the train came through, he said.

Police have not released the man's name, pending notification of his family.
