Screen Plays puts Film on Stage

This is an era where most new Broadway musicals have their basis in some old movie. On the other coast, Hollywood is remaking old movies left and right. I have to hand it to "Screen Plays" Producer Karen Tuccio for taking the re-dux to a new place. Her theatre company present plays with movie connections to Hollywood's Golden Age. Specific? Maybe, but in the early days of Hollywood, many movies were inspired by plays, more than the other way around.

Next up is Parfumerie, Adapted by E. P. Dowdall from the Hungarian play Illatszertar by Miklos Laszlo. This is the romantic comedy that inspired The Shop Around the Corner, In the Good Old Summertime, You've Got Mail, and the musical She Loves Me.

The production will feature 1930's era costumes and stage props and a pre-show displays of vintage cosmetic advertisements. Opening nights performance on Friday, Dec. 13 will have the Hungarian American Club serving Hungarian pastries.

Performance dates are as scheduled:

Fridays, Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. – December 13, 14, 20, and 21

Thursday at 8:00 p.m. – December 19

Saturday, Sunday Matinees at 2:00 p.m. – Dec. 14, 15, and 21
