West Webster fallen firefighters will be remembered

The West Webster Fire District and the West Webster Volunteer Firemen's Association will be holding two memorial events in December to honor the firefighters who were injured or died during the Webster ambush last Christmas Eve.

Lt. Mike Chiapperini, 43, a volunteer firefighter and the police department's public information officer, and Tomasz Kaczowka, 19, who also worked as a 911 dispatcher for Monroe County, died in the shootout.

The injured firefighters are Joseph Hofsetter and Theodore Scardino. Hofsetter suffered a severe injury to his pelvis. Scardino was shot in the left shoulder, with the bullet hitting his lung.

On Dec. 22 at 11:00 a.m. the Fallen Firefighters Memorial behind Station No. 1, 1051 Gravel Road, will be dedicated with all four families of the fallen expected to attend.

The public is invited to view the new memorial after 1 p.m.

On Dec 24, 2013 at 6a.m. the West Webster Fire Department and emergency services personnel who responded to the scene will hold a private candlelight vigil at 191 Lake Road.
