Rally empowers young Latinas

Latinas Unidas held its 12th annual ¡Soy Unica! ¡Soy Latina! Rally on Saturday at Nazareth College.

This was the first time that the event, for girls ages 7 to 18, was held at the college. Organizers said Latinas Unidas is seeking to establish new relationships with local colleges and universities to expose the girls to college life.

"The vibrancy and success of our young Latinas is important to the overall health of our community," Joann Santos, Latinas Unidas chair, said in a statement. "In partnership with Nazareth College, the ¡Soy Unica! ¡Soy Latina! Rally will help to empower our future leaders and professionals by investing in them today."

The event aims to motivate Latina girls to learn about and celebrate their culture through workshops and activities, organizers said.
