Teddy Coffey receives rally in Webster
WEBSTER – There was a Teddy Coffey lovefest here Tuesday night. But the time to really show 2013 Webster Schroeder High School graduate and Penfield native some love is Wednesday night.
That's when voting for finalists on the Fox TV show So You Think You Can Dance? opens, and over 250 screaming fans at a pep rally at Willink Middle School vowed to vote for him 20 times each.
Coffey couldn't appear for the rally, but he sent a videotaped message thanking everyone back home for the support.
"I love you all," he said, sending the crowd into a frenzy.
The towns of Webster and Penfield with support from the Monroe County Legislature, superintendent of Webster Central Schools District, and the mayor of the village of Webster proclaimed July 15, 2014, "Teddy Coffey Day" in Webster and Penfield.
Coffey has impressed judges on the show moving into the Top 20 for Season 11 of the show to compete before a national audience.
Teddy Coffey is certainly a talented dancer.
Instructional dance video tapes Coffey made while at Webster Schroeder were shown during the rally, and the videos are still helping district students learn dance techniques.
Coffey's former elementary school gym teacher and friend, Jen Sullivan, emphasized how great a young man he is.
"He's an incredible person. I couldn't be happier for him. It couldn't happen to a better person."
During the rally kids from Plank Road Elementary School performed some of Coffey's moves, and as with everything else during the 45-minute rally, the crowd went wild.
Scott Spezzano of 98WPXY helped hype the crowd while urging them to vote. The show airs at 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Voting opens as the two-hour-long show ends.
