Stay or go, Sara, the choice is yours

Staff reports

Who is Sara? And why should she stay?

What is the story behind this billboard on Rt 490 east just before the Goodman St. exit?

Both obvious questions that motorists are likely to have when passing a billboard on eastbound Interstate 490 leaving downtown Rochester that reads: "Sara, please don't leave," with the possible signature, E.K.

The billboard went up Monday, purchased by a regional advertising agency, and should remain up for about a month, said David Torpey, sales manager with Lamar Advertising Co., which owns the billboard. The regional agency did not want its identity disclosed, he said, and also did not share the meaning behind the message.

It is possible — likely, even — that this just an advertising promotion for a television show.

Because, really, a text message or phone call would have been cheaper and more effective.

But if not, Sara? If you are looking for your billboard on your way out, it's between Averill and Meigs, before the Goodman Street exit.

The choice is yours.
