When Caroline White tried out for basically an all-star girls basketball team headed to a statewide tournament three years ago, she was cut.

White returned to the tryouts the following year. She ended up a starter for the Rochester team that was runner-up at the 2015 Basketball Coaches Association of New York Summer Hoops Festival.

"I originally tried out my sophomore year and I made it back to the callbacks,'' the Fairport senior said. "There was so much talent on that team, just to be called back was an honor for me.

"I learned a lot from the upperclassmen. This year I wanted to do that with the underclassmen this year.''

White, a 5 foot-11 inch forward who expects to play her fifth varsity season this winter, will get the chance to share what she knows. The 2016 Democrat and Chronicle All-Greater Rochester Team member is again on the 12-player squad in the BCANY Summer Hoops Festival, Aug. 5-7 in Johnson City, Broome County.

"It's a high-level tournament,'' White said. "Breanna Stewart is one of the girls who have played. Meg Hare out at Jamesville-DeWitt (in the Syracuse-region), a great shooter, she's going to be back.

"It's a great test of your skill-level. It's very similar, a lot of the girls you see at the festival, they play AAU, too.''

White, a 95-average student who is undecided on her plans for college, is a two-time all-star in the Monroe County league. She averaged 16.1 points with 11 rebounds and made 39.5 percent of her 3-point shot attempts last season.

Fairport reached the Section V Class AA final, where the Red Raiders lost to a Penfield team that included two AGR players, junior guard/forward Makaila Wilson and Boston College freshman Emma Guy. Wilson and White will be teammates at the festival. Kayla Jackson, a third AGR first-teamer on the Rochester festival team, averaged 16 points and nine rebounds last season as a sophomore at Aquinas.

The team coached by Jeff Parizek includes four 2016 AGR Second Team members: Edison sophomore Dyaisha Fair, Caledonia-Mumford senior Gillian Flint, Our Lady of Mercy junior Leah Koonmen and junior Annabelle Fair, who averaged 26.3 points last season for Class D Northstar Christian Academy.
