Webster hosts job fair for new school bus drivers

One of the perks of being a WCSD bus driver is helping out at the district's annual Strive for 5 event. (M. Rosenberry)

To this day I remember the bus driver I had when I was in grade school.  That alone tells you a lot about the effect a school bus driver can have on a young child's life.

I mean, think about it. The bus driver is the first district employee a child sees every day, and the last. More often than not, that means the child is welcomed to each day with a smile and discharged with a wave and a happy thought. They are in many respects the unsung heroes of your child's school day.

Here's how you can become one of those heroes.

The Webster Central School District is actively recruiting new bus drivers. Applicants must be available to drive from September through June between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Candidates must be at least 21 years old. A CDL license and driving experience is preferred but not required.

It goes without saying that applicants should also like working with children. Or as the district put it in their press release, candidates should "possess a patient, caring, consistent personality, and share a commitment to Webster’s students."

You can find out more at the Bus Driver Recruitment Fair on Wednesday, January 13, from 3-7 pm in the library at Webster Schroeder High School, 875 Ridge Road. Interested persons should register by calling 216-0014 or 216-0010. Walk-ins are also welcome.
