Woman busted for allegedly abandoning ferrets

An Ontario County woman was charged Friday with two counts of animal abandonment and animal cruelty after she allegedly released ferrets near a trash container in an apartment complex earlier in the week.

A woman was charged Friday with two counts of animal abandonment and animal cruelty after she allegedly released these ferrets near a trash container at an apartment complex.

Sharon M. Anemaet, 40, of Bloomfield, was being held in Ontario County Jail in lieu of bail, according to the Ontario County Humane Society.

The agency alleged that at 7:45 a.m. Feb. 15, Anemaet was seen by two people letting ferrets named Malice and Mayhem loose at Hidden View Apartments, 8 E. Main St., Bloomfield. According to the Humane Society, one of the witnesses captured the animals.

Anemaet was located and arrested at about 11:30 a.m. Friday, according to the Humane Society, which is caring for the ferrets.

The Ontario County Sheriff's Office assisted in the investigation.
